Join Pres. Mabe in Columbus to learn about Issue 1

OCSEA President Chris Mabe will join bipartisan leaders on Thursday, October 24, in Columbus to talk about the importance of Yes on Issue 1 for union workers and their families.

Mabe encourages members to attend to get the facts on Issue 1. "If we have fair maps, we will have meaningful, fair elections, and that means our elected lawmakers will have to be responsible to the voters and not to extremists in their political party or the lobbyists who fund their campaigns," said Pres. Mabe, who is concerned about the many misconceptions being put out about Yes on Issue 1.

On November 5, Ohioans will have the chance to vote on Issue 1, the constitutional amendment. Yes on Issue 1 would create a 15-member Ohio Citizens Redistricting Commission made up of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents broadly representing the different geographic areas and demographics of the state. This commission would ban current or former politicians, political party officials and lobbyists from sitting on the Commission.

Over the last month, We Are Ohio and Union Strong has held Urgent Member Meetings throughout the state to bring together workers, labor leaders, good government advocates and supporters to raise awareness about Yes on Issue 1. Pres. Mabe joins advocates the Ohio League of Women Voters, Ohio AFL-CIO Pres. Tim Burga and more in pushing the importance of drawing fair and impartial districts that don’t favor one party over the other or one elected politician over the other.
